The California State Legisluture is passing a huge transportation funding deal that will raise billions of dollars for roads. It’s been two years in the making but the policy is still stuck in the old school paradigm: more about roads and highways, and less about the transportation system Californians deserve. The California State Legisluture is passing a huge transportation funding deal that will raise billions of dollars for roads. It’s been two years in the making but the policy is still stuck in the old school paradigm: more about roads and highways, and less about the transportation system Californians deserve. It will continue to keep people stuck in their cars instead of giving Californians real, sustainable and affordable options.  

We appreciate the importance of maintaining our existing road infrastructure, and the urgency to find a funding solution as maintenance costs continue to climb. However, paying for our roads must be balanced with investments in a future transportation system that protects our environment, promotes social and economic justice, and improves our communities. 

Recently in an Environmental Quality Senate Committee meeting, a state Senator claimed that clean air is not as important as maintaining our roads - we couldn't disagree more. Make sure your Senator knows you demand a better deal, and that substantial funding and consideration for biking, walking, and transit is a necessity.
